The Origin of Soft-Shell Crabs

چکیده
Soft-shell crabs are famous in seafood restaurants because they have a wonderful flavor, easy to eat, and highly nutritious! any regular edible crabs, but their natural, soft-shell condition—because just shed old shells, an event called molting. Within few hours after molting, while still condition, these harvested sold as crabs. Crabs the condition higher market value than hard-shell condition. By understanding origin of we can improve production well try find ethical sustainable ways obtain them.

Shell Exchange in Hawaiian Hermit Crabs
Shell exchange behavior of intertidal Hawaiian hermit crabs was observed in the laboratory. Outcomes of 255 shell-related interactions were analyzed to test the predictive powers of two models of resource exchange . In the case of intraspecific interactions, the negotiations model (which predicts that exchanges should occur only when both crabs will gain in shell value) was superior to an aggre...
متن کاملFossorial Origin of the Turtle Shell
The turtle shell is a complex structure that currently serves a largely protective function in this iconically slow-moving group [1]. Developmental [2, 3] and fossil [4-7] data indicate that one of the first steps toward the shelled body plan was broadening of the ribs (approximately 50 my before the completed shell [5]). Broadened ribs alone provide little protection [8] and confer significant...
متن کاملEnergetics of Hermit Crabs during Locomotion: the Cost of Carrying a Shell
Oxygen consumption (VOZ) was measured as hermit crabs (Coenobita compressus) walked at controlled velocities on a motor-driven treadmill inside a small respirometer. The crabs displayed an aerobic response to exercise with a rapid increase in VQ2 reaching a steady state in about 5-6 min followed by a rapid recovery. The highest VQ2 was four times the resting rate. V^ was directly dependent on t...
متن کاملAnatomical, radiographical and computed tomographic study of the limbs skeleton of the Euphrates soft shell turtle (Rafetus euphraticus)
Euphrates turtle is the only soft shell turtle of Iran, and unfortunately is in danger of extinction due to multiple reasons. Imaging techniques, in addition to their importance in diagnosis of injuries to animals, have been used as non-invasive methods to provide normal anatomic views. A few studies have been conducted to understand body structure of the Euphrates turtle. Since there is only g...
متن کاملCompression of hard core-soft shell nanoparticles at liquid-liquid interfaces: influence of the shell thickness.
Soft hydrogel particles show a rich structural and mechanical behaviour compared to hard particles, both in bulk and when confined in two dimensions at a fluid interface. Moreover, encapsulation into hydrogel shells makes it possible to transfer the tunability of soft steric interactions to hard nanoparticle cores, which bear interest for applications, e.g. in terms of optical, magnetic and rei...
